If you are looking for a Bavarian import beer to celebrate Oktoberfest, you might want to try Warsteiner Oktoberfest Special Edition. This beer is brewed according to the German Purity Law, which means it only uses water, barley malt, and hops without any chemical additives. It has a 5.9% alcohol content, which is slightly higher than the average beer, but perfect 👍🏻 for an Oktoberfest beer because at that range we believe your body can process it better.

Warsteiner Oktoberfest Special Edition pours a clear golden color with a nice white head that fades quickly. The aroma is biscuity and malty, with a hint of honey and lemony hops. It also has a faint smell of Munich water, which adds to its authenticity. The taste is smooth and balanced, with a mild sweetness from the malt and a soft bitterness from the hops. It tastes similar to Paulaner Oktoberfest (in the Blue Can), or communally known as the liquid gold to us at Seelos Brauhaus, which is another popular Bavarian festbier. The mouthfeel is light and crisp, with a refreshing carbonation. The finish is dry and clean, with a subtle hoppy aftertaste.
Warsteiner Oktoberfest Special Edition is a festbier like the one traditionally served on the Oktoberfest Fairgrounds (meadow of Theresienwiese) although this brand of beer is not served there because it’s not brewed in the Munich city limits. Only six breweries are permitted to brew and serve Oktoberfest beer at the festival, and they are: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Löwenbräu, Paulaner, Spaten and Hofbräuhaus. These breweries must follow two criteria: their beer must have a minimum of 13.5% Stammwürze (which translates to approximately 6% alcohol) and must be “pure” – containing only water, barley, hops, yeast, wheat malt and/or cane sugar. These criteria are based on the German Purity Law and the tradition of Oktoberfest.
Warsteiner Oktoberfest Special Edition is a well-made and easy-drinking beer that captures the spirit of Oktoberfest. It is not as rich or complex as some of the other Oktoberfest beers, but it is still enjoyable and satisfying. It pairs well with traditional Bavarian dishes like sausages, pretzels, and schnitzel. Drinking this beer while listening to Oktoberfest Polka gives you the feel of traditional Oktoberfest. For the price, it’s not bad too, currently priced at the time of this review at $8.99 a six pack. If you are looking for a simple and authentic Bavarian festbier, Warsteiner Oktoberfest Special Edition might be the Beir for you.
We hope you enjoyed our first ever beer review. And Stay tuned for many more Oktoberfest Bier reviews to come.
Cheers! 🍻 Prost! 🍺
